Sara Cohen School
Specialist Teacher Outreach Service
Sara Cohen School provides a Specialist Teacher Outreach Service (STOS) for the greater Dunedin areas. The service supports students with high and very high needs (ORS) funding in their local schools. More recently this has grown to include support for students who are enrolled with Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu (Te Kura) formerly the correspondence school.
The Outreach team works collaboratively with a wider team that supports the students, parents, whanau, class teachers, teacher aides, Ministry of Education Multi-disciplinary teams, and other agencies.
Our teachers provide specialist teaching support to enhance learning outcomes for students and promote engagement and participation in their class programmes.
The Outreach teacher may be involved in a range of support activities depending on the needs of the students.
We have found Josie’s approach to Tim’s education an invaluable addition to his support team. Her support has been customised to Tim’s individual needs and she has demonstrated an understanding of our whānau’s desire for his classroom experiences to be mana enhancing”
